AI strategy for growing businesses
AI strategy for a business that does not need an AI department
A useful strategy is a sequence of business choices, not a technology manifesto.
Anchor it to business pressure
Growth, margin, customer experience, capacity and resilience are stronger anchors than a generic ambition to ‘use AI’. The strategy should state which pressure matters, which work may change and what evidence would justify further investment.
Create a portfolio, not a pile
Balance quick operational wins with a small number of strategic bets. Every initiative needs a business owner, a user, a baseline and a decision date. Experiments without these elements become permanent background activity.
Build learning into governance
The aim is proportionate control, not a committee around every prompt. Agree where experimentation is safe, what data cannot be used, when specialist assurance is required and how lessons are shared across the business.
What to carry into the work
- Start with business outcomes
- Name an owner for every use case
- Make risk proportionate
- Use evidence to decide what scales
